Summer Term Week 8
Hi Everyone,
Hope you have all had a good week. We have had a great week here, the children have all been really busy and we have finished our week by releasing our butterflies!
We started the week with setting up a pizzeria in the Sun Room, Andrea has made a great pizza oven and the children have enjoyed making pretend pizzas, taking orders and talking about their favourite toppings. Alongside this we have been marking making using crayons, pens and water colour paints.
Outside we have been playing lots of football, have started to make a display for the World Cup and the children have helped me fill out the wall chart by checking the scores every day. We have also had lots of water play – we have used gutters, made tin foil rivers, used wooden blocks to make rivers and used balls and boats to float down them.
The Suns and Moons have been talking about starting school, we have looked at the logos, the colour jumpers they’ll be wearing, who is going to which school and looked at the skills they need to have before starting school. We made hats with football images on to practise using scissors, put on our own shoes and even put on some school uniform! I have made a display of who is going where so they can easily see which school they are going to. We have has visits from St Andrews and Duchy School this week and some children have been to Willowbank. We are not going to talk about schools for a few weeks now so that we don’t overwhelm them all but will do a bit more towards the end of term.
The Stars have been looking a lifecycles during their circle times – lady birds, frogs, plants an butterflies. This have involved making playdough butterflies, ordering life cycles, listening to stories and making their own flowers using petals. As I mentioned this week has been ended by releasing our butterflies, this year all 15 have emerged from their cocoons. The children have loved seeing the changes and have been checking on them. This morning we read the Hungry Caterpillar story, sang our caterpillar song and released the butterflies. They waved them off with some saying that they are going to miss them!
Next week we are going to have an ice cream parlour role play area with ice cream made from playdough. Outside we are going to have a large scale sand pit and lots of water! I have ordered some new paddling pools and a sprinkler to try and keep them all cool in the hot weather. We will be putting up our gazebo and making sure that all the children have hats on and drink lots and we will be refilling their bottles with water. It would be really helpful if all children have several sets of clothes so we can change them if they are wet – we are running very short of shorts in our spares box. Also, please remember to use the once a day, water proof sun cream as we cannot reapplying sun cream during the day – thank you!
Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads, we hope you like your cards and small gift (for children that haven’t been in this week the cards are in the office for when they come back) and have a lovely day.
Have a good weekend!
Louise
