Summer Term Week 3

Our theme this week has been dressing up, we have had a different box out each morning to see which style captures the children’s imagination and the weddings box has been the most popular! We are going to focus on all kinds of celebrations over the coming weeks and will learn all about the Queen’s Jubilee ending with a party at the end of this half term.

On the Sun table we have also played hairdressers and beauty spa sessions and we have also been learning about our town, looking at old photos of Cullompton in books from the library and looking at photos that children took around our town which are brilliant! The children loved looking for their houses on google maps and chatting about where they live and their neighbours! One particular boy made us laugh by talking about how his neighbour had a new lambourghini!

Outside the children have been making caps and dens and camp fires and working on their co-ordination with lots of different activities like setting up an exercise station with our drinks and hats for sunny days. We have enjoyed dough gym undercover and explored our senses with new posters and info in our play house which is our chill out relaxing zone! Crossing the midline activities are excellent for building strength and co-ordination and we have played lots of action games as well.

We have welcomed Nigel from Willand Tennis Club this week over 3 afternoons and the children are really good with their tennis skills and their listening skills! The Suns and Moons took part in the coaching session in the back garden and there are some brilliant photos from the afternoons on our gallery.

The lovely Star group are progressing brilliantly and will be more than ready for the Sun and Moon group next year and they have been working on reading stories and then answering lots of questions about them, animal yoga, sound matching, and playing the “Floor is lava” game! The Stars are also getting really good at recognising their names and matching the first letter of their name.

The Sun and Moon groups have focused on learning about countries with Andrea! They have talked about foods and buildings and learnt languages too and have been cutting out flags practising their scissor skills. Andrea has sent home a letter about homework! Planning towards our Jubilee celebrations. With our focus on building hand strength we have used dough gym in the circle time, patting and rolling and squishing and squashing. Making postcards, learning about stamps and practising our writing has ended a very busy week!

Forest School has been a delight in the back garden, using the Bear Hunt as inspiration for messy trays to jump in and explore, the children found a big sloworm and held the frogs too and welcomed some parents in to experience the session too.

Another fantastic week at pre-school with two weeks left of this half term! We will be learning about rainbows and colour, playing with small worlds, setting up wedding role play and construction next week. We would love donations of any party and wedding bits and pieces, your wedding photos on email, and ladles!
