Autumn Term Week 6

Our week has been full of wonderful Autumn sensory play, exploring the pumpkins and the conkers and Autumn leaves that have been donated. The children have worked really hard to chop up the pumpkins to make soup which we have for snack today and we

Autumn term Week 5

Science week has been a fantastic hit, the children have been completely absorbed in learning about volcanoes, lava lamps, weather and the observations from the staff are wonderful to read -lots of children know quite a lot already about Science and love the experiments we have

Autumn Term Week 4

Our week has been full of exploring and brilliant fun in the mud kitchen – we have had mud, flowers, conkers, fruit tea bags all giving texture and lovely smells for the children. The children love to be outside and the staff expertly support them in their play and make sure that the children are working well together and I had read so many wonderful observations this week of the children paying well, helping each other, being kind, giving each other great ideas and collecting items to enhance their play.

We have been building worlds on the floor in the sun room during the free flow time and this has been great for promoting lots of chat about our town and our homes. We have photos from around the town on boxes and lots are very recognisable to the children. Please do email in photos from your garden, the park, the CCA fields and from around the town for us to use next week.

The Moon room has been open for quiet play, we let the children choose what they would like to get out and then this is a lovely quiet area for children to move to if they want to, with an adult there to play with them and promote clear language. We are also really impressed with how the children have learnt the rules and the routine of the day – we use a visual timetable to help with that and all staff carry around the little widget cards to represent the day.

Our circle times have been fantastic and very well planned:-

Star – the children have been using musical instruments through the week, they have listened to the Animal Boogie CD and practised all the moves and I have seen some very enthusiastic dancing! They have been learning the positional language using puppets such as on, next to, between and under. They have learnt new songs and learnt the language of size as well – building structures that are tall and short. Story sacks are very popular as well and the Star children sit beautifully for the story.

Sun and Moon – the school starter groups have been busy as always, learning about weight and capacity, floating and sinking, heavy and light, tall and short and similarities and differences. The group leaders have helped the children look carefully at their features and make a self portrait with collage, they have enjoyed water play using different cylinders and watching for the splashes as the water spills, they have explored rhyming words with objects – matching them together house and mouse, bat and hat for example and played a listening and attention dragon game!

Next week we will be exercising outside depending on the weather! Yoga, Gymnastics and dancing, inside we will have the ever popular “Science week” – as we are a charity and money is tight through fundraising being cancelled due to COVID we would love donations of the following items please:-

Vinegar, baking powder, bicarbonate of soda, food colouring, jam jars with lids, cheap shaving foam (not gel), gravel and play bark. Thank you!

Autumn Term Week 3

We have welcomed all of the new starters now and our youngest children in the Star group have all settled in brilliantly. A few tears as always on separating form the lovely Mum’s and Dad’s but the team here are wonderful and so caring and

Autumn Term Week 2

Another fantastic week here at pre-school, the sun has shone and the children have loved exploring the gardens and being outside. The new construction area has been a fantastic addition to the front garden and I have seen lots of the children working together, creating some

Autumn Term Week 1

We are absolutely delighted to welcome our current children back to settle in this week, we have been well staffed as well so it has been a real treat to see them all and check in with families and see how everyone has been. The children are happy and busy and loving being back, they don’t see worried at all about the new drop off plans and walk and even run in happily to be welcomed by staff.

We are now in the process of meeting all our new families as well and the children will all have started during the w/c 21st September so our days will certainly be getting busier!

We have had lots of different activities going on this week to let the children explore all our resources and we have enjoyed building train tracks, playing with the babies outside, the water wall, foam and gloop, paint and using all the outdoor equipment too. Circle times have been based on the routines and learning names and making sure everyone is happy and we have talked about our families and the new children joining us too. We have made textured paint, made marks in coloured sand, unpacked our new lovely tables, played parachute games, drawn pictures of our family, enjoyed some exercise and explored shapes as well. We have used our story sacks and the children have been engrossed! Snack and lunch have gone smoothly and we are having our food in smaller groups as we really think this supports a better communication and language environment and was something we started during lockdown in the smaller bubbles.

Lots going on next week as new children join for their session visits and meet their key people, we will have hairdresser role play, playground games and collage art outside and lots more circle times based on listening and attention, some messy play and more songs and stories to round off each day.

We hope all our families are happy with their first week and that the blog photos give you a little snapshot of pre-school life!

Summer Term Week 10

Summer Term Week 10

We have enjoyed the sunshine this week and the children have loved the paddling pools to help us all cool down! Please do remember to apply all day suncream to the children.

The new “normal” is working really well at preschool, we are really enjoying the smaller groups and the children are really benefitting from the higher staff to child ratio and the well planned group times.

We are still splitting into two circle times and each groups has a different activity! We have talked about our homes, written dream shopping lists, learnt more letters and sounds, made cards for friends and family and practised our writing too. The children have painted using watercolours and made ice creams and loved science Friday with some volcano action! We have also been counting outside in our natural environment, learnt to draw shapes, played parachute games and played with a lot of water!!

We have three more weeks left of our summer term and have lots more fun learning planned, an ice cream shop and unicorn craft, learning about the frogs in our pond, forest school activities and more water play I am sure!

We are really looking forward to welcoming a few children back this week who we have been able to slot into a session with an increase in staffing making that possible.

The children have enjoyed a lovely week again regardless of the changes in weather! The two “bubbles” are very settled with their ladies and we have a good working pattern now with procedures and the “new normal”! We really don’t know yet what life will
