Autumn Term – Week 5

Hello,

I hope that you have all had a great week. You might have noticed that we have a new, but familiar, face in the office here now – Abigail has joined us as our new Admin Assistant! Sarah has been showing her the ropes and she has settled in really quickly – it’s like she’s always been here!! We have also welcomed 2 new children into Pre School this week.

This week at circle times we have been looking at food, how it’s made and what’s healthy food. The suns and moons have made smoothies and cupcakes – although I did over cook one batch 🤦‍♀️, tasted different types of fruit, decorated biscuits and written out their own recipes. The stars have also tasted fruit, made their own jam sandwiches for snack, made cake mixture and decorated paper gingerbread men and biscuits.

Next week outside we are having a role play bakery to continue the theme and will be doing lots of cooking inside – if anyone has any cooking apples that they could spare for making apple crumble with we would be grateful.

We have continued our farm shop outside – the children have dug for vegetables, collected eggs and washed vegetables for restocking the shelves. We’ve also been scrubbing the fence, brushing the floor with soapy water and playing with the sand. Inside we have talking about harvest and how things are grown – using non fiction books and the iPad to gather information, playdough to get their fingers moving and large scale painting to get their arm muscles and core stronger – we have had painting on the floor, shrink wrap around table legs, tin foil on tables, painting on bubble wrap and using the easel.

Claire was busy in the garden yesterday planting garlic, onions and spring bulbs with the children.

Next week alongside the bakery and cooking we will be using clay and weighing different items using various types of scales. At circle times we will be looking at staying healthy and movement/exercise.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend and I’ll see you next week!

Louise
