Summer Term Week 3
Hi All,
Apologies that my update is a bit later than usual, we had another very busy Friday!
The week started really well – once I’d remembered it was Tuesday and not Monday!!
Tuesday Morning saw Alfie return for the second session of football, the children were really excited about going out to play. We have added football and games to the planning for outside this week to carry on with their interests. Part of our curriculum this half term is co-ordination, balance and agility so this sits nicely with this.
Carol came in for Story Massage which was lovely and calm on Tuesday at story time.
On Thursday morning the Moons had a trip to the milkshed hut beside the sports centre and it was the Suns turn on Friday. Both days the children walked beautifully with the adults, picked strawberry and banana milkshakes. We took our picnic blankets and had snack on the grass beside the centre and then had a run around. On the way home on Thursday we had an impromptu photo shoot in the bus stop!
Suns and moons both had Forest School this week, as you will see by the photos I’ll load up later they had a brilliant time. The children were all busy and very happy – what a difference some sunshine makes! They watered our new strawberry plants, rolled down the hill in the barrel and made a tube slide.
The Star group also had their first sessions of Forest School this week. They went out on Thursday and Friday afternoon for just over an hour to start getting them used to it. They loved it out there and didn’t want to come back in. They explored the garden, saw the frogs, played in the mud kitchen, and the Friday group all laid down on the grass and listened to the birds. They had their snack around the fire circle but without the fire. We are going to continue this for the rest of the term.
Our circle focus for the week was recognising letters from our names and writing our names. The Stars looked at hearing and seeing the initial letters from their names and looking at “s” which is the first letter we used when teaching phonics – they listened for items beginning with “s” and looked for objects being with “s”. They also used counters to mark out the first letter of their name by following the line of the letter.
The Suns and Moons matched initial letters from their names, wrote their names in flour, found all the letters from their names and arranged them in the correct order, drew self portraits and wrote their names underneath and matched objects to the correct initial letter/sound. It is amazing how so many of the children can recognise their friends names just by hearing the initial sound, they are doing really well with this.
We had a great time creating our garage outside, lots of inventive play and we had water in the mud kitchen which is always popular.
As mentioned above we will be playing ball games in the garden, inside we will be looking at different types of dance, singing new songs, drawing to music and sound matching games. Circle times we will be looking into our families, using out special books and tapestry to look at photos – if you have any new family photos we would love it if you could share them, if you send them to your Key Person I will print them off for them.
I hope you all have a great rest of your weekend and I look forward to seeing you next week.
Louise
