Screen use and tablets and mobiles

Digital media surrounds children, smart phone use, tablet use and screen time is often seen as negative and something that we should all challenge and it feels judgemental. We all need to use digital media at times to allow us to complete tasks in the home. There are so many benefits too – facetiming family, researching and learning, learning other languages, looking up recipes, using Alexa, a Yoto or a Tonie! digital media and screen time can be a positive, supporting creativity and contact and communication and helping with daily tasks and it forms a huge part of “life admin” and work life.

For toddlers aged 2-4 we must consider quality over quantity – the real benefits from digital media come when an adult plays or learns alongside. Access to sites un supervised is risky and screen time before bed can disrupt sleep – with many children even aged 2 having their own tablets good habits early on are key.

We will be researching and learning and sharing knowledge on this page.
