Our World and Our Cultures

Dear families

We are learning about the world around us and all of the different countries and foods over the coming half term.

There are many cultures and languages within our wonderful families – in fact children here speak or listen to 12 different languages and have family all over the world.

We will use this topic for lots of our areas of learning and would love your input.

Our curriculum leads towards the end of the children’s year in

Foundation at Primary school and the goal by then is:-

ELG: People, Culture and Communities

Children at the expected level of development will:

• Describe their immediate environment using knowledge from observation, discussion, stories, non-fiction texts and maps.

• Know some similarities and differences between different religious and cultural communities in this country, drawing on their experiences and what has been read in class.

• Explain some similarities and differences between life in this country and life in other countries, drawing on knowledge about foods, from stories, non-fiction texts and – when appropriate – maps.

We love to develop the children’s knowledge and need your help please!

Please reply to this email with any ideas and info to bring our topic to life!

Do you have family who live in other countries?  (please send a photo if possible!)

Do you have family in another county?

Does your family have any food ideas from around the world that you enjoy that we can try for snack time – we would love some new ideas!

Were you born in Devon or another county or even another country that we can learn about?

I look forward to hearing from you and to learning more about your families
