Here at Cullompton Pre-school we understand the importance of communication and interaction and how any delay can impact on the fundamental early years of the children’s lives. That’s why I have put together a new improved speech and language programme called: LAUNCH INTO LANGUAGE for children, which can start as early as needed to support speech and language development. An exciting space themed programme with fun and entertaining activities that the children will want to do over and over again. We are passionate about giving all our children the very best start possible and early intervention is proven to have increased benefits for children who are experiencing a delay for any reason.
We understand that during these past few years our children have not been able to have access certain opportunities due to the pandemic, like playgroups, play dates, health visitors etc and became use to adults wearing masks so they were not able to watch how people speak. subsequently there are an increased number of children who have delays in communication and interaction and that’s why it’s vital that we provide early intervention here at pre-school.
Our new and exciting 5 step programme starts at the very root of communication and ends with more specific sound work.
This programme includes a sound screen check as recommended by speech and language. These checks are carried out before moving to targeted speech sounds in week 5.
We can also carry out these checks on any children at any time and use these resources to support targeted sound work.
Some children may not need to complete the whole programme, and the target sound section maybe enough to support them.
These steps are:
Step one – Launch – These are activities based on listening and attention (6 weeks)
Step two – U.F.O’s – These are activities based on understanding (6 weeks)
Step three – Shooting stars – These are activities based on speaking (6 weeks)
Step four – Luna – these are activities based on using language/ social communication (6 weeks)
Step five – Solar system – these are activities based on speech sounds (6 weeks)
Each step has six different parts that will run on a weekly basis, so each step will take approximately 6 weeks to complete. Louise W and I will be running these programmes, sometimes on their own and sometimes in small groups every week for the children we feel would benefit from some extra time and more targeted input from us. We will be asking you as parents to support these sessions and give you your own home learning ideas that will coincide with the targeted step we are working on here at pre-school and you will be able to support the children at home as well.
We really hope that this new programme will help many of our children to make the best progress during their time with us here at pre-school. Your child will get a certificate to say they have completed a section of the programme and we hope to be able to extend these types of interventions in the future based on the needs of the children. If you feel your child would benefit from this programme, please speak to either Louise W or myself for more information. We may also be approaching some parents who we feel may need extra support for their children,
